Abstract
984,111. Television pick-up tubes. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 22, 1961 [March 30, 1960], No. 11131/60. Drawings to Specification. Heading H1D. An electron discharge device, e.g. a television camera tube, has a photo-emissive cathode for converting a light image into an electron image and a charge storage target comprising a dielectric member having one surface disposed to receive the image electrons, wherein the surface is provided with a deposit of metal which increases the electron acceptance of the target relative to that of the dielectric member, the metal having a vapour pressure not exceeding 10<SP>-2</SP> mm. of mercury at 300‹ C., and a vapour pressure exceeding 10<SP>-2</SP> mm. of mercury at 700‹ C. The photo-cathode is sensitized by one or more alkali metals and then the deposit of metal on the target, e.g. antimony, tellurium or bismuth, is obtained by evaporating a bead of the metal in the tube until the electron acceptance of the surface is at a maximum as measured by the ratio Im/Ic, where Im is the current collected by a mesh electrode in proximity to the surface and Ic is the current supplied to the photo-cathode. Specification 971,534 is referred to.
