Abstract

The undesired production of fast electrons in known camera tubes which affects beam current inertia can be reduced further and dynamic beam current control may take place with a lower cathode load and with a smaller control signal by using a camera tube having a diode electron gun comprising, centred along an axis (5), successively a cathode (10), a first anode electrode (11) having an aperture which has a diameter at least twice as large as the diameter of an aperture (15) in a second anode electrode (12). The aperture (13) in the first electrode (11) is so dimensioned that a lens field formed between the first (11) and the second (12) electrodes has substantially no influence on the cathode emission. A positive voltage of between a few and a few tens of volts, typically 10 volts, is applied to the first electrode (11), and a positive voltage which is at least ten times higher, and which is at least 100 volts, typically 300 volts, is applied to the second electrode (12). Dimensions are specified, and sources of the fast electrons exemplified. <IMAGE>
