Abstract

1,040,334. Image-converter tubes. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 25, 1963 [March 29, 1962], No. 12005/62. Heading H1D. In an image-converter tube a planar photoelectron emissive cathode 1 has closely spaced therefrom a fine pitch mesh 2 of mutually perpendicular filaments, connected at the periphery to a short cylindrical electrode 3 to form an auxiliary focusing arrangement. Cylindrical focusing electrodes 4, 5, 6, 7 are spaced along the tube between the cathode and a luminescent screen 8 and energized at increasing potential to cause the principle rays of electrons to cross the axis of the tube to produce an inverted image on the screen. The auxiliary focusing arrangement causes the marginal rays to cross the axis further from the cathode and closer to the point where the axial rays cross. The electrode 3 may be conically shaped and may be maintained at a different potential from the mesh 2. In another embodiment, Fig. 4, not shown, the mesh is closer spaced to the cathode and the electrode 3 is not used.
