982,609. Devices for measuring the height of material on a conveyer. SIMONACCO Ltd. Jan. 29, 1964 [Dec. 1962], No. 48510/62. Heading G1M. In a device adapted to sense the mean height of solid material being moved along a conveyer 14, fingers 26, pivoted to a support, trail over the surface so that on reaching a variation in the surface they pivot causing an arm 88 to depress a tappet 80 to operate a ball valve 76 seated in a passage 72 of a spigot 70 situated in a valve block 66. Passage 72 is connected to a further passage 74 leading to a tube 54. A piston 52 is slidably mounted in the cylinder 48 and loaded upwardly by spring 62; passage 34 being connected to pressure chambers 22, 24 through throttles 36, 38. In operation, when fingers 26 are displaced levers 86 are pivoted opening ball valves 76 causing a pressure drop in members 34, 48, 52, which provides a signal in pipe 46 to actuate an indicating, controlling or recording device.
