Abstract

1433499 Filling control system L'OREAL 21 Dec 1973 [21 Dec 1972] 59389/73 Heading B8T When a container 2 is raised up into a dispensing head 17 of a bottle filling machine a conduit 22 is closed by a valve plate 20. A gas shut-off valve 24 is then operated momentarily by a cam (not shown) so that compressed air from a conduit 29 is connected to conduits 22, 33. If the conduit 22 is closed then the pressure in conduit 33 is large enough to move the slide of a pneumatic distributer 30 to a position which connects the compressed air source to a conduit 32. This air acts on a piston 14 in a ball valve 7 acting as a liquid shut-off valve such that a ball 10 is unseated allowing liquid to flow through the valve from a supply conduit 8 to the filling duct 6. A supply of air from a flow throttle 37 is introduced to the container during filling by a liquid detection probe 16. This air normally escapes through the top of the container but when the liquid level reaches the orifice of the probe 16, which is located at the point where the container is regarded as being full, the air is prevented from escaping. This builds up pressure in the pilot conduit 38 of a servovalve 36 which results in a membrane 46 closing an orifice 47. Thus compressed air, which has been entering the servo-valve 36 through an inlet 35, is prevented from venting to atmosphere through the orifice 47 and holes 49 and the pressure builds up above a second membrane 51, thus breaking a seal 53, 54 and connecting the inlet 35 to an outlet 39. The resulting flow from the outlet 39 will push the slide of the pneumatic distributer 30 back to its original position so breaking the connection to to the conduit 32. The valve 7, by virtue of a spring 12, then closes and filling ceases. Following the removal of the filled container from the dispensing head 7 a control arm 41a of a twoway pneumatic valve 41 is operated by another cam so a blast of compressed air enters the probe 16 and blows out any drops of liquid entrained during the filling.
