Abstract

[Also in DivisionF2] A valve comprises a tubular member (6), Fig. 1, not shown, having a closure surface (8) at one end which co-operates with a fixed seat (9) to control flow through the member from an inlet (2) to outlets (3). The member (6) has an external piston (7) formed thereon which is moved in a cylinder (4) in response to pneumatic pressure in a chamber (4a) on one side of the piston under the control of a manually actuated valve 19, Fig. 3. A chamber (4b) on the other side of the piston is vented by passages (11) which connect with the passages (3) when the valve is closed, but are closed by the member (6) when the valve is open. The valve is disposed in a pipeline leading from gas storage vessel 17, Fig. 3, to a gas blast circuit-breaker 14. Movement of the valve 19 to exhaust the chamber (4a) allows the member (6) to be moved by the pressure of the gas in vessel (17) acting on the larger diameter portion (12), to the open position. For moving the member (6) to the closed position the valve 19 is actuated to connect the chamber (4a) with the vessel 17 through a non-return valve 22 and auxiliary storage vessel 20. The seat (9) may be disposed in the inlet to the valve. The member (6) may be loaded to the closed position by a spring.
