Abstract
846,271. Valves. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. Sept. 12, 1956 [Jan. 24, 1956], No. 27897/56. Class 135. A valve in a line between a distributer and operated apparatus, e.g. a pneumatic jack, which permits the rapid exhaustion of used air from the apparatus, comprises a resilient cup-shaped valve member 29, Fig. 1, having a small hole 36 in its base and slidable in a valve body 21 to co-operate either with a seat 26 (lower half of Figure) on a valve seat member 23 connected to the distributer or with a ring of holes 41 open to the atmosphere and surrounding a connection 22 to the apparatus. On compressed air being admitted to the valve from a remotely disposed distributer the valve member first moves rightwardly so that beads 33, 34 on its bottom are compressed to seal the holes 41. A lip 42 then hinges about an annular groove 37 to fully open the.valve to supply the apparatus. On the piston of the apparatus reaching the end of its stroke the pressures on the two sides of the valve member equalize each other so that the lip resumes its original position, the holes 41 still remaining closed. On movement of the distributer to exhaust position the pressure on the upstream side of the valve member is reduced so that it moves leftwardly and used air is rapidly exhausted through the holes 41 without having to return through the distributer. In a modification, a resilient cupshaped valve member 56, Fig. 4, having a small hole 58 in its base and held by an annular bead 54 between a valve body 44 and a valve seat member 47 is normally seated against the distributer connection 45. On admittance of compressed air to the valve the valve member 56 is first compressed to close a ring of holes 52 opening to the atmosphere and surrounding a bore 48 in the valve seat member 47 connected to the apparatus. A lip, as before, then hinges about an annular groove to fully open the valve. In a further modification, a resilient cup-shaped valve member 60, Fig. 7, having a small hole 71 in its base and held by an annular bead 65 between a valve body 73 and a valve seat member 63 normally closes the outlets from branches 69. On admittance of compressed air to the valve, the valve member 60 is first stretched to close a ring of holes 62 and then, as before, a lip hinges about an annular groove to fully open the valve. Instead of the small bore the bottom of the valve member may be formed with slits.
