Abstract
981,991. Mobile platform elevators. COTTERELL & PITHER Ltd. Nov. 27, 1963 [Sept. 6, 1962], No. 34235/62. Heading B8H. The platform 1 of a mobile elevator is connected to a base 2 by links 3, pivoted to the platform at 7 and slidably connected to the base at 8, and links 4, pivoted to the base at 7a and slidably connected to the platform at 8a and is raised by a pair of hydraulic rams 13, 14 each pivoted at 15 to the base and at 23 to a bell crank which is pivoted at 22 to a projection 19 on a tube 20 extending between, and secured to, the links 4. When the platform is in the lowered full-line position, Fig. 3, initial extension of the rams rotates the bell crank 17 about the pivot point 22 until a roller 24 on the bell crank engages a spring steel strip 25 on the base. Further extension of the rams causes further rotation of the bell crank 17 about the pivot point 22 thereby raising the pivot point 22 and raising the linkage 3, 4 by means of the projection 19 and tube 20. The rotation of the bell crank 17 continues until the pivot point 15, 22, 23 are in line and thereafter the roller 24 is lifted from the strip 25 and the raising of the platform 1 continues to the dashed-line position, Fig. 3. A stop 27 may be provided on the projection 19 to limit the rotation of the bell crank 17 so that the rams begin to lift the platform 1 by acting directly on the projection 19 before the pivot points 15, 22, 23 are aligned. The flexible strip 25 is normally clear of the ground but deflects under the load from the roller 24 until it contacts the ground to prevent the elevator from movement over the ground during the first stage of lifting the platform. In a modification, the bell crank 17 is replaced by a bell crank having three rollers, Fig. 4 (not shown), adapted to engage the strip 25 in turn during the first stage of lifting the platform. In a further modification (not shown) a plurality of bell cranks, each coming into operation in turn, is provided. It is stated in the Provisional Specification that the roller or rollers on the bell crank may be replaced by a slide block or blocks which slide over the strip 25.
