Abstract

975,154. Garage lifts. MANN EGERTON & CO. Ltd. Aug. 17, 1962 [June 2, 1961], No 20054/61. Heading B8H. The lifting frame 6 of a garage lift is connected to a base 2 by parallel links 9, each pivoted at its upper end to the frame and supported at its lower end by a roller 10 running on channel-section guides 3, 4 on the base. The links 9 are coupled by transverse shafts 11, 12 which are connected by links 13, 14, and levers 22, 22a are pivotally connected between the shafts 11, 12 and pivots 15 on the base. The frame 6 is raised by an hydraulic ram 8, 18 pivoted between a point 23 on the base and one end of a lever 19 mounted for rotation about the axis of shaft 12, the other end of the lever 19 being provided with a roller 20. In operation, the initial extension of the ram, when the frame 6 is in its lowermost position, causes the lever 19 to rotate about the axis 12 thereby forcing the roller 20 into contact with a rail 26 on the base and raising the shaft 12. Further extension of the ram rotates the lever 19 into the position shown in Fig. 2 where stops 24 on the levers 22a engage shoulders 25 on the shaft 12, whereafter the lever 19 exerts a pulling force on the shaft to raise the frame 6 to its fully elevated position. The frame 6 is provided with adjustable transverse supporting beams slidably supporting vehicle engaging pads 17. In a modification (not shown), the frame is provided with tracks for supporting the vehicle wheels. In a further modification (not shown), the base is supported on spring-loaded wheels which raise the unloaded base from the ground. A spring-loaded catch may be provided for locking the lift in its elevated position.
