Abstract

949,699. Vehicles with elevating load supports. D. A. LAYTON. March 23, 1962, No. 11325/62. Headings B8E and B8H. The body 3 of a load-carrying vehicle is connected to the chassis by two pairs of links 6, 7, each link being pivotally connected at one end to the body or chassis and slidably connected at its other end to the chassis or body. A shaft 8 extends through the links 6 and engages in tracks 9 in the links 7 and jacking means extend between the links and the chassis to raise or raise and tip the body. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, the shaft 8, extending through a sleeve on the links 6 and provided with rollers running in the tracks 9 between end plates 25, is acted on by a hydraulic ram 21 which is pivotally mounted on the chassis. In a modification, Figs. 2-4 (not shown), the shaft 8 may be locked at the lower end of the tracks 9 whereby the body is raised without being tipped on extension of the ram 21. An adjustable bypass valve for the ram is provided to operate at a predetermined position of the links 6, 7, if the catches are in operation. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 6, the shaft 8 extends through slots 38 in the links 6 and is movable along the slots by a second ram 42. In operation, a dual-control valve may be set simultaneously to actuate the rams 21, 42 to move the shaft 8 along the tracks 9 and slots 38 to raise the body to the required height and the ram 21 may then be actuated to tip the body.
