Abstract

1,206,962. Masted lift trucks, MATBRO Ltd. 5 June, 1968 [5 June, 1967], No. 25923/67. Heading B8H. The mast structure 12 of a lift truck is mounted for swivelling about a vertical axis offset to one side of the fore-and-aft extending centre-line of the truck, between a forwardly facing and a sideways facing position, such that in both positions, the centre of gravity of a load carried by the mast is disposed substantially on the said centre-line. The mast structure 12 is mounted for tilting in a vertical plane on cheeks 5 of a gate member 1 which is pivotable about a vertical post structure 1a, a roller 9 on the gate being always supported on an arcuate track 10 mounted on the truck frame. The gate member 1 is pivoted about post 1a by a jack 4 and the mast 12 is tiltable by a pair of jacks 7 on the member 1. The mast structure 12 comprises an inner fixed frame pivoted at its base to the cheeks 5 and an outer frame vertically slidable relative to the fixed frame by actuation of an hydraulic ram. The gate and mast structure are arranged on the truck with the base of the fixed frame and the track 10 for the gate member just above the level of the top of the truck front wheels, between which the gate member is situated. The sliding frame in its lowered position extends below the fixed frame such that a carriage thereon can be placed adjacent the ground, the carriage being vertically slidable on the movable frame. In operation, a load is picked up by the carriage while it faces forwardly, and raised to a level just above the top of the truck front wheels, whereupon the mast structure is slewed into the sideways position and the load is lowered on to the truck frame between the front wheels.
