Abstract

1417126 Lift trucks TOWMOTOR CORP 15 Dec 1972 [16 Dec 1971] 58089/72 Heading B8H A side stacker lift truck 10 for use in filling and emptying storage racks comprises a forward and side frame member 16, 18 and forward and rearward masts 20, 22 along which a traversing unit 50 is raised and lowered, the unit 50 consisting of a movable carriage assembly 40 on which a pair of forks 44 (46) are mounted, Fig. 2 (not shown), and a pair of side members 52, 54 which project from the assembly 40, the lift truck 10 further comprising a pair of track sections 38 which are movable along with the unit 50 and to whose outer ends a pair of folding track members 66, 68 are pivotally attached, such that when it is desired to pick up a laod, the pairs of track members 66, 68 are folded out from their positions shown in Fig. 1 to a horizontal position in which they are coextensive with the track sections 38, Fig. 4 (not shown), such that the carriage assembly 40 and forks 44 (46) can be moved along the tracks 38, 66, 68, the side members 52, 54 having rollers 56 which run in the said tracks. The track members 66, 68 are folded in and out relative to the track sections 38 by means of a respective hydraulic ram (74) attached to each of the members (66), and a respective link (82) which is pivotally attached to the associated track section (38) at a pivot (84) and has a roller (86) attached to its free end which rolls against the surface (88) of the underside of the associated track member (68), Fig. 4, (not shown). Movement of the traversing unit 50 along the tracks is effected by means of chains (92, 94) attached to the side members (52, 54) respectively and driven via sprockets (96) from motor means (not shown), Fig. 2 (not shown). During the picking-up and setting- down of a load it is possible to obtain limited vertical movement of the forks 44, (46) relative to the carriage assembly 40 by means of hydraulic rams (58, 60) respectively which operate the forks by way of bellcrank linkages (62, 64), Fig. 3 (not shown).
