A timepiece is fitted optionally with a central or an eccentric seconds hand in a torque train between the barrel and the excapement. Spring barrel 1 drives an eccentrically disposed minute wheel 3 which drives a pinion 4 fast with a first intermediate wheel 5. This wheel 5 meshes with a central seconds pinion 6 which in turn meshes with a second intermediate wheel 9 loose on the arbor of pinion and wheel 4, 5. The second intermediate wheel 9 drives an eccentrically disposed seconds arbor 10, a wheel 11 of which drives the excapement 12. If an eccentric seconds hand only is to be fitted, on arbor 10, the central seconds pinion 6 and the loose intermediate wheel 9 are omitted, a single intermediate wheel 9<SP>1</SP>, fast with the pinion 4, then driving directly on to the eccentric seconds hand pinion on arbor 10. The dial train, comprising the-cannon pinion 13, hour wheel 14 and change gear 15, is driven from the minute arbor 2 through a pinion 16, there being a frictional connection between the minute arbor 2 and pinion 16. The arbors of all the wheels connected with the seconds hands are situated as shown in Fig. 2 substantially all on one side of a diameter so that the balance wheel is left clear of obstruction and the balance spring cannot accidentally hook on to one of these wheels, also, the overall depth between the plates 7, 8 is determined solely by the barrel 1 and the minute wheel 3.
