Abstract

977,900. Indicating liquid levels. MIDLAND BRASS FITTINGS CO. Ltd. March 24, 1961 [March 25, 1960], No. 10599/60. Heading G1H. In a liquid level gauge the lower connection of the sight-tube 8 to the liquid container comprises a screwed plug 14 containing a bore 17 having radial ports 26 opening into the internal channel 16 of a banjo-type connector 11. The bore 17 contains an annular partition forming a seating 18 for the head of a valve 20 urged toward the closed position by a compression spring 24. When a level reading is to be taken the valve 20 is lifted from its seating to allow liquid to enter the sight-tube by manually depressing a push button 22. The sight-tube 8, which may be of glass or a transparent or translucent synthetic plastic material such as nylon, is protected by a metal guard comprising two angles attached to a backing plate 6 so as to form a channel 7 partially surrounding the sight-tube 8 or by a metal tube cut away to reveal the sight-tube. In the event of accidental breakage of the tube only the liquid contained therein is lost.
