Abstract

866,618. Indicating liquid levels. VALOR CO. Ltd. Oct. 23, 1959 [Nov. 22, 1958], No. 37678/58. Class 123(1) Liquid-level indicating apparatus for fitting to the oil container of an oil burning appliance comprises a wire bell-crank lever 18 which is coiled around a pivot pin 20 carried between the lower ends of the arms 15 of a U-shaped bracket 14 attached by its upper ends to the underface of a cup member 1, the longer bell-crank arm 21 carrying, at its free end, a cork float and the shunter arm 22 extending upwardly between the bracket arms 15 and through a diametral slot 13 in the base of the cup member 1. The bracket 14 is secured, e.g. by spot welding or as shown by planed over eyelets 16, to straddle the slot 13 which has formed, on either side on the upper face of the cup member 1 against an appropriate back-ground colour, a dial 13. The upper end of the lever arm 22 is first bent transversely of the slot 13 and then doubled back to form a pointer 24 which overlies the dial 13 on both sides of the slot 13, and is painted to contrast with the background colour. Instead of being painted a plastic sleeve can be fitted over the pointer. The cup member 1 which is adapted to be detachably fitted within the externally screwthreaded neck 2 of a fuel tank 3 has a peripheral flange 4 which rests upon an inturned upper edge 5 of the neck 2 an axial rib 6 on the cylindrical wall of the cup member 1 engaging in a recess 7 in the inturned edge 3 to locate the cup member angularly within the neck 2. A transparent disc 11, made, e.g. of glass or plastic, is laid over the rim 4 of the cup member 1 before a screw-threaded retaining cap 8, with a central viewing opening is screwed on to the neck 2.
