977,314. Spinning. SUMITONO KINZOKU KOGYO KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Dec. 23, 1960 [Dec. 28, 1959; Aug.11, 1960], No. 44244/60. Heading D1D. A spinning arrangement comprises a ring magnet 1<SP>1</SP>, a spacer 2 of non-magnetic material such as aluminium, copper, stainless steel or a resin, disposed within the magnet 1<SP>1</SP> and an inner ring 3 of soft-magnetic material such as soft iron the inner ring 3 thus being magnetically suspended and free to be rotated by a roving, which, during, spinning, passes about the ring and is taken up on a package which the ring encircles. The magnet 1<SP>1</SP> may be magnetised in an axial direction but preferably it is formedwith a number (e.g. six) of alternating poles on its inner surface. As shown the magnet 1<SP>1</SP> is preferably tapered towards its inner surface. The spacer 2 and ring 3 are preferably chromium plated to resist wear by the running yarn. Details of the dimensions of the components and suitable materials for the magnet are given. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 870,219 and 924,937.
