Abstract
908,112. Yarn tension devices. KLINGER MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd., and MATTINGLY, D. A. E. Feb. 3, 1960 [Feb. 20, 1959], No. 5878/59. Class 120 (2). A yarn tension control device comprises a rotatable disc 9 which has an annular peripheral portion joined by spokes 11 to a centre portion 12, the peripheral portion having blades 37 of which alternate blades incline out of the general plane of the disc on one side thereof as they extend outwardly, while the other blades incline in a similar manner from the other side of the plane. The blades may be formed by slitting the outer periphery of the disc. In Figs. 1 and 2, the disc 9 rotates on a portion 19 of a spindle 22, 21; 19, 23 which is mounted by a strip 34 on a block 39 fixed by a screw to a rod 41 ; the disc carries an armature of magnetic material close to the poles 29, 30 of a permanent magnet so that its rotation is yieldingly restrained ; the magnet is mounted on an internally threaded sleeve 24 which may be screwed along the threaded portion 23 of the spindle to adjust the gap between the poles and the armature ; the disc has a guard 33 and the magnet a cover 25 both mounted on the spindle. In another form, Fig. 3, the restraining means comprises an auxiliary rotor having blades 61 on a vertical spindle 53 which also positively connects it to the disc 9 ; the rotor dips into a fluid in the container 60, the bore of which is threaded to engage a threaded inverted cup 59, so that rotation of the cup varies the depth to which the blades are immersed. The disc may be formed from sheet metal, e.g. resilient brass, and is preferably chromium plated ; the side edges of the blades may be formed with corners of small radius to enhance the gripping effect. In an arrangement in which two threads are false twisted as described in Specifications 788,526, 788,527 and 908,111, each thread passes to tensioners of the form described from zigzag guides 43 ; on leaving the tensioners the threads pass through notches formed by a member 47 carried T-wise by an arm 46.
