Abstract

733,831. Magnetic couplings. HALL, Ltd., J. & E. April 7, 1954 [April 16, 1953], No. 9747/53. Class 35. A magnetic coupling comprises an inner member having radial permanent magnets or magnetic members and an outer ring member having the same number of inwardly projecting permanent magnets (or magnetic members) as there are permanent magnets or magnetic members on the inner member, the two rotating members being separated by a stationary partition. The permanent magnets 4 of the inner member carry polepieces 5 and they are secured to a mild steel hub 3 by screws 7. The outer member comprises a mild steel cylinder 10 having inwardly projections 11. The cylindrical partition 19 which is interposed between the inner and outer members may be made of synthetic resin reinforced with glass fibre or of stainless steel. In a further arrangement, the magnetic members 11 of the outer member are replaced by permanent magnets secured to the inner surface of the cylinder 10 and the polarity of such magnets would be of opposite polarity to that of the adjacent ends of the magnets 4.
