[Also in Division B1] A device for adding a controlled proportion of a treating fluid to a flow of water comprises a double-acting reciprocating hydraulic motor 26, 29 operated by the water flow, the piston rod 16 of which has formed in it the pump cylinder 40 (for treating fluid) which reciprocates over a fixed plunger 30. On the suction stroke treating fluid is drawn from the pipe 19, through the slits 51 in the flexible inlet check valve 46 and the passage 30a, into the cylinder 40; and on the delivery stroke is expelled through the passage 30a, the outlet check valve 38 and the outlet pipe 20 to a delivery manifold (not shown) where it mixes with the water. If the treating fluid is corrosive, the pump plunger 30 may be nylon and the cylinder 40 glass or stainless steel, and the check valve assemblies plastic or stainless steel; other metals with plastic or ceramic coatings may be used. Admixture of water to the motor cylinder is controlled by the spring loaded plastic slide valve 60 actuated by a valve rod 70 terminating in a ring 71 in which reciprocates an arm 74 attached to the piston rod 16; the arm 74 has limited movement about the pivot 75 checked by spring loaded plungers 77, 78. Its operative length may be varied by an adjustable cap 79 which engages a snubbing roller 80 and prevents the valve rod 70 being actuated before the rod 16 has reached the end of its stroke.
