Abstract

Animal fibres or mixtures thereof with other natural or synthetic fibres are printed using as dye a paste or powder based on 1-amino-4-sulpho6-intro-2-naphthol--> 2-naphthol prepared by subjecting a paste of this dye having a pH 3-7 to a forced grinding until substantially all particles larger than 5 microns have disappeared, adding to this paste, before or after grinding a chromium salt. The so-formed paste may then be rapidly dried whilst avoiding any overheating e.g. by atomisation in hot air. p Suitable chromium salts are chromium acetate, sulphate and fluoride. There may also be added to the paste, before or after grinding, surface active agents, e.g. sodium salt of diheptyl sulphosuccinate, organic acids, anti-foam and anti-dusting agents or any other auxiliaries as well as other chroming dyestuffs. In the examples the dyestuff paste is incorporated into a British gum thickening or mixed with glycerine and then employed in the Vigoreux printing of combed wool.
