Abstract
975,480. Gas blast switches; automatic circuit breakers. S. & C. ELECTRIC CO. Jan. 28, 1963, No. 3462/63. Heading H2B. In a drop-out fuse assembly 16 one end of the fuse 83 is releasably supported by a latch 93 and is released upon moderate overload, insufficient to blow the fuse 83, to trip the fuse tube latch (Fig. 2, not shown) in the usual manner. The latch 93 is released by a hammer 37 striking the base of fuse tube 16 to drive shaft 116 upwards camming surfaces 123 apart to separate the hooks 93-93 of the latch. The hammer is operated through a rotating insulator 39 by a manually wound spring 54 which is tripped by an overload or differential relay. The fuse tube contains blocks or arc extinguishing gas evolving boric acid.
