A secondary-electron-emissive electrode for an electron multiplier or image intensifier tube comprises an insulating layer exhibiting the property of bombardment-induced-conductivity and having a thickness in the range 200 to 2000 Š, provided on one side with a layer of aluminium, beryllium or magnesium, and on the other side with a layer of secondary-electronemissive material, e.g. potassium chloride or barium fluoride. Preferably a layer of aluminium oxide, 500 Š thick, formed by anodizing an aluminium foil, is attached to a glass frame and is coated, by evaporation in vacuum, with a layer of Al, 100 Š thick, and a layer of potassium chloride, 500 Š thick.
