Abstract

1309379 Electrode materials PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 25 June 1971 [30 June 1970] 29937/71 Heading H1D A high vacuum discharge tube comprises two electrodes with Cu surfaces, adjacent parts of which are each covered with a 10-50 Š thick layer of Ti or Zr. The layer is applied by vapour deposition and prevents field emission from surface irregularities. Surfaces include those of an electron gun grid and an accelerating electrode of an electron microscope and the cathode grid, anode and lenses of an electron gun in a C.R.T. In an X-ray tube, a soft Cu coated magnetic anode tube 33 and a cathode screen are coated, the anode tube having an eccentric thickness distribution to concentrate the beam on a W anode 35; X-rays emerge from a Be window. In a vacuum switch including Cu end plates 51, 52 and bellows 55, adjacent electrodes 56, 57, 59 which screen the ceramic envelope 50 from sputtered material, are coated.
