Abstract
1,173,859. Electrode materials and processing. METALLWERK PLANSEE A.G. 23 July, 1968 [28 Aug., 1967], No. 34994/68. Heading H1D. The rotary target for an X-ray tube comprises a base of graphite with a coating of a tungsten-rhenium alloy at least over the areas of electron impact. The alloy may contain 1- 35%, preferably 5-25% e.g. 10% by weight rhenium and an intermediate layer of unalloyed rhenium may be provided between the graphite and alloy layer. The intermediate layer may be a few microns thick and the alloy layer at least 0À1 mm. thick. The layers may be deposited from gaseous compounds, e.g. by the reduction of the respective hexafluorides, and, since it involves only the variation of the gas mixture used, both layers may be deposited in a single operation. Alternatively the layers may be deposited by spraying, electrolytic deposition or thermal decomposition of metallic compounds.
