Abstract
1436157 Making rotary anodes SIEMENS AG 22 Oct 1973 [20 Oct 1972] 49117/73 Heading B3A [Also in Division H1] A method of making a rotary anode 9 for an X-ray tube comprises forming an intermediate metallic layer 21 on a graphite body 10 by means of a fine coating process and subsequently forming at least a major portion of a metal layer 22 on the intermediate metallic layer by a coarse coating process. The layer 21 consists of tungsten and is applied by vapour deposition while the layer 22, which is also of tungsten, is applied by exploding a mixture of metal powder, oxygen and acetylene in a gun directed at the surface to be coarse coated. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the whole of the cathode facing surface is coated, the intermediate layer (26) being of tantalum and the metal layer (27) being of tungsten, which is coarse coated by plasma spraying. Other fine coating processes include electrolytic processes such as fusion electrolysis or certain pyrolytic processes.
