Abstract

973,654. Building blocks and walls; ceiling joists. A. HARDIE. Feb. 8, 1963 [Nov. 8, 1961], No. 39950/61. Headings E1B and E1V. A building block of reinforced concrete is formed with an inner dished face bounded by four edge faces each provided with a groove 7, 8, the grooves 8 in two opposite faces being at a different distance from the outer face than the other two grooves 7. The blocks are built into a wall with tie-rods fitted into the grooves and spanning several blocks. The block may be provided in the parts bounding the recess in the dished face with ducts as shown in Fig. 2, and the bounding parts may each incorporate a layer of heat insulating material. In a wall the dished faces may be covered with boards and the cavities thus formed filled with insulating material. The outer face of each block may be marked to simulate joints in stone work. The Specification also describes joists, Fig. 4, for use in a building erected from the described blocks, the joists being reinforced and being provided with air ducts 23. A ceiling 25 and boarding 22 are shown.
