Abstract
973,462. Refrigerating. AMERICAN RADIATOR & STANDARD SANITARY CORPORATION. March 28, 1962 [June 23, 1961], No. 11890/62. Heading F4H. [Also in Division F1] A gas compressor unit 10 (see Division F1) for a mechanical refrigeration system comprises a chamber 20 supplied with liquid refrigerant, from a point between an expansion valve 16 and an evaporator 18, by a conduit 72, the level of the liquid -in the chamber being controlled by a valve 78 connected to a float 84. Gaseous refrigerant is supplied through a conduit 24 to the chamber 20 where it is stored at low pressure. Two rotary scoops 52 provided with ports 66 are successively immersed in the liquid and gaseous refrigerant, and thereby trap volumes of gas between slugs of liquid. The gas is centrifugally compressed between the liquid slugs in conduit portions 60 and is expelled through elongated slots 64<SP>1</SP>, passages 50 and hollow shaft 40 to a condenser 12.
