Abstract

The efficiency of a refrigeration system or of a heat pump can be improved by using a reservoir between the condenser and evaporator. The refrigerant is delivered by the motor driven compressor to the condenser and then to the reservoir where the gaseous and liquid phases are separated. The liquefied refrigerant flows through an additional heat exhanger before passing through the expansion valve and evaporator. The refrigerant is cooled by the flow of the medium which has been cooled by a medium passed through the evaporator.
