In a float-operated valve, e.g. for toilet flush tanks, a quick closing action is obtained by utilizing the inlet pressure to apply a substantially constant force in opposition to that of the ball valve. The action of float-operated arm 24, via roller 21, upon vertically slidable stem 26, carrying valve washer 32 to engage seating 8 of inlet 7, is resisted by the inlet pressure upon retarding disc 31 which, in fully open position, lies across the mouth of cylinder 11, adjustable by screw 22. The rubber disc 31, though relatively stiff, possesses limited flexibility to deflect and compensate for increased line pressure. The upper valve housing 2 is provided with a ring of antisyphon openings 25, closable by the upper of antisyphon washers 28 and 29. U.S.A. Specification 2,635,622 is referred to.
