Abstract

971,773. Injection moulding. VINATEX Ltd., and FOSTER, YATES & THOM Ltd. June 25, 1962 [July 7, 1961], No. 24658/61. Heading B5A. A method of moulding multi-cellular soles of footwear consists in injecting into a mould a resin together with a blowing agent which have been heated to a temperature above the decomposition temperature of the blowing agent cooling at least part of the mould surface so that the resin in contact with it will set forming a surface layer of non-expanded resin, allowing the mould cavity to enlarge in a controlled manner under the pressure of the blowing agent so that the interior of the resin becomes multicellular, and then leaving to cool. The mould may comprise a movable plate mounted in the mould cavity and controlled by hydraulic, pneumatic or spring means. The hydraulic or pneumatic fluid may also be used to cool the mould. Part of the mould may be replaced by an upper on a last if it is desired to mould the sole directly to the upper.
