Abstract

1,227,012. Moulding shoe soles. R. FAVRAUD. 18 June, 1968 [19 June, 1967], No. 29072/68. Heading B5A. [Also in Division A3] A one-piece sole has, over its whole surface, a skin or covering 3 of compact material such as polyvinyl chloride or similar material and, inside this skin 3, a foam core 1 of the same material. The foam core 1 has a uniform thickness and the shape of the heel is formed by a honeycomb structure 7 of the compact material. The sole is produced in a mould consisting of a mould shell 13 which bears against a collar 12 surrounding a matrix 10 mounted on a support plate 8. The plate 8 and mould shell 13 have channels 9, 9a for the circulation of a coolant. The matrix 10 initially projects into the mould cavity 16 with the surface 10b of the matrix 10 extending beyond the surface of the collar 12 as shown in Fig. 3. A hot P.V.C. paste or similar material, containing a blowing agent, is injected into the mould cavity 16 through a channel 18. When the injected material contacts the cooled surfaces of the mould shell 13 and matrix 10 it solidifies to form the compact covering or skin 3. The matrix 10 is then withdrawn from the mould until its surface 10b is flush with the surface of the collar 12, thus allowing the blowing agent to form the foam core 1.
