693,841. Making rubber-soled footwear; lasts. DEJOND, F. J. G. Oct. 1, 1951 [Sept. 30, 1950], No. 23976/50. Classes 17 (i) and 17 (ii). [Also in Group XI] In a process of vulcanising a sole to an upper in making rubber soled shoes both the last 1 on which the upper is mounted and the mould (not shown) which contains the sole are heated, so that heat is applied above and below the sole. For the purpose of heating the last 1 it may be provided with a recess a in which an electric or other heating element 7 is housed, the temperature being controlled by a thermostat 2. The recess a is closed by a base or sole plate 10. Two moulds side by side with two lasts may be employed in the manufacture of a pair of shoes, pressure being applied to them simultaneously.
