A mould for use between the heating plates 5a, 5b of a press comprises parts 1, 2 with stock 3 to be vulcanized and compressed; heat insulating insets 4 reduce the amount of heat supplied to the thinner parts of the stock. In the embodiment of Fig. 2 steam passages 8 and 9 adjacent the thinner and thicker parts of the stock are supplied with low and high pressure steam respectively.
