Abstract

971,609. Clutch control. MORGANITE CARBON Ltd. Sept. 20, 1963 [Oct. 4, 1962], No. 37532/62. Heading F2L. A clutch release bearing is connected to a throw-out plunger by a universal joint to accommodate misalignment of the bearing-ring and thrust plate. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1 the thrust ring 5 is carried in an annular cup member 4 having a central depression engaged by a ball 3 in a square spigot 2 at the end of the plunger 1 and fitting with clearance into a recess in the cup 4. The members are held together by screws 6 which engage the comers of an outer triangular spring washer 7 and the spigot 1, and pass freely through holes in the cup 4. In the second arrangement according to Fig. 3 a central recess 9 in the cup 4 is engaged by a domed projection 8 at the end of the plunger 1, the members being held together by a pair of locating pins 12 and a central screw 10 engaging an outer spring plate 11 and the dome 8, and passing freely through a central hole in the cup 4.
