Abstract

971,552. Packages; boxes. T. J. SMITH & NEPHEW Ltd. Jan. 23, 1962 [Dec. 6, 1960], No. 41962/60. Headings B8C and B8P. [Also in Division A5] Plaster of Paris bandage strip folded in zigzag fashion such that successive lays are superimposed to form a rectangular uncompressed pile, is disposed in a generally rectangular prism-shaped container having a coverable opening adjacent the uppermost lay of the pile, through which opening a desired length of the strip may be drawn for cutting off. The pile 17 of the bandage strip is placed in a polyethylene bag which is closed by folding or sealing. The bag containing the bandage is is placed in a carton (not shown) or a box 21 of wood, sheet metal, plastic or cardboard, the box having a lid 23 with downwardly extending flanges. Two opposite lid flanges 24 are split, the lid being scored or hinged between the splits so that a portion 29 of the lid may be raised to form an opening through which the bag may be opened and a free end of the bandage strip may be withdrawn. Sealing strips 28, 30 may seal the lid to the box. The box may be coated in moisture-proof material and the strip may be enclosed in two waterproof bags. A convex fillet in the bottom of the box may be provided to raise the uppermost lay of the pile to flat condition.
