970,173. Railway vehicle undercarriages. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG - NURNBERG A.G. Nov. 8, 1961, No. 40035/61. Heading B7L. A railway bogie bolster comprises at each end, lower spring bearing boxes 9, 10, Figs. 1 and 2, interconnected by a pair of transverse rods 13, 14 through elastic sleeves 15 bonded to the rod ends and to rigid bushes 16 on the boxes 9, 10, the latter being connected to the bogie frame 12 for transverse swinging movement by means of swing hangers 11 which are universally deflectable on the frame 12, and pairs of springs 7, 8 carried by the boxes 9, 10 and supporting upper bearing boxes 4, 5 pivotally interconnected for relative vertical movement by a transverse link 6, the boxes 4, 5 supporting a vehicle body 1 through rubbing plates 2 located in oil-filled casings 3. The springs of each pair are spaced in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. The invention is characterized in that tilting movements of the bearing boxes in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle experience little resistance since the sleeves 15 are then in torsion to which their resistance is low, but tilting movements of the bearing boxes in the transverse direction of the vehicle are strongly resisted since the sleeves are then under compression and offer considerable resistance. The springs of each pair will thus remain evenly loaded and stressed. Each spring may be replaced by multiple telescopic springs.
