Abstract
1,072,129. Railway vehicle undercarriages. SCHWERMASCHINENBAU S. M. KIROW VEB. Nov. 18, 1964, No. 46875/64. Heading B7L. A railway vehicle chassis comprises at each side a shaft 3 carrying a balance arm 4 and journalled in a bearing 2 secured to the chassis frame 1, a pair of rods 8 secured at their lower ends to the arm 4 on opposite sides of the shaft 3, each rod 8 being suspended at its upper end from a rubber or coiled compression spring 10 carried on the upper side of a beam 12 extending longitudinally of the chassis and supported at its ends on the tops of axle boxes 13, 18 of a pair of axles, the compression springs 10 being symmetrical with respect to the transverse vertical centre plane of the beam 12, whereby axle loads are substantially equalized. The lower ends of the rods are universally connected to the arm 4 by bearing members 6 having part spherical surfaces engaging corresponding surfaces on the arm. Each spring 10 is mounted between retainers 9, 11, the retainer 11 having a convex surface to engage the beam 12. The retainers are secured to sleeves 24, 24a slidable one within the other. Co-operating abutments 19, 20 are secured to the frame 1 and beam 12 respectively, the abutment 20 having a convex surface. An abutment on the lower side of the beam 12 can co-operate with a convex surface on top of the bearing 2 when the springs 10 expand sufficiently. The righthand axle has lateral play in its axle box guides, in the frame 1.
