969,774. Finishing yarns. LEESONA CORPORATION. May 18, 1961 [May 19, 1960], No. 18122/61. Heading D1F. In a device for applying wax to a yarn running between a stationary platform and a mass of wax carried on a rotatable support, the platform, 82 in Fig. 2, comprises two adjacent sections, one, as at 88, having a plane surface in close proximity to the underside of the wax and the other, as at 90, having a surface in a lower plane and spaced from the underside a distance greater than the yarn thickness. The normal path of yarn Y across the platform includes a part passing over a portion of the upper section in advance of the lower section relative to the direction of rotation of the support, the remainder of such path passing over the lower section. In the apparatus shown in Figs. 1 and 4, a shaft 40 drives through gears 42, 44, a shaft 46, pins 54 and 64, belt 80 and pulleys 56 and 72 to rotate a stud 70 carrying the platform 82 and a disc 86 of wax. Yarn from a package 30 or 31 passes through a guide 16, tension unit 18, between disc 86 and platform 82 for waxing, through a slub catcher 20 which is connected to a suction duct 22, thence to winding means (not shown). If a break occurs, in winding yarn after waxing, the yarn is urged into the recess between section 90 and the disc so that it is held away from, and is not therefore wound on, the stud 70.
