Abstract

969,733. Spiked plates. FOLEY & LAVISH ENGINEERING CO. May 2, 1963 [May 7, 1962], No. 17343/63. Heading F2H. [Also in Division B3] A connector plate for joining wooden members comprises a plurality of polygonal openings 14 having prongs 30-33 integral with the plate at each corner of each opening, the prongs each having a right-angular configuration and a pointed tip 50-53 directed away from the opening. The plate is initially slit and drilled as in Fig. 2 and the prongs then formed by a punch and die, the initial movement of the punch curving the tips of the prongs outwardly. Two timber sections 10, 11 are joined by plates 12 on opposite sides, the plates being initially located by nails through openings 18. When driven home, the spikes curve as shown in Fig. 7 to clinch them fast.
