Abstract

The double-pointed nail has a central collar (1) with a pointed shank (3, 5) on each side of the collar. The nails are first driven into one of the members forming part of a joint, by using a special punch. This punch has a central bore into which the shank of one projecting end fits and the end face of the punch abuts against the collar (1). The nails are driven into the member until the upper face of the collar is flush with the surface to which glue is then applied. The other part of the joint is pressed into position and is retained by the nails, obviating the need for special clamps.
