Abstract

969,267. Ejectors. HICK, HARGREAVES & CO. Ltd., and F. WALKER. Feb. 19, 1963 [April 5, 1962], No. 13207/62. Heading F1E. An ejector pump has a non-return valve 10 operated solely by the pressure difference across the valve and located in a suction pipe 13 and an automatic venting and vacuum-breaking valve 23 mounted in the nozzle box 4. Water pumped by pump 1 from tank 2 exhausts the air present in nozzle box 4 through vent 21 until the vent is closed by a ball float 23 constrained in a cage 22. If pump 1 stops, the ball float allows air to pass through the nozzle box and the nozzle plate 5 to close valve disc 10 which prevents water being drawn through the suction pipe into a steam condenser. Disc 10, which may be faced with a resilient material, e.g. rubber, is either secured to a spindle 11 which slides in bearings 12 or may slide on a fixed spindle.
