Abstract
969,254. Electric heating pads. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Jan. 26, 1962 [Jan. 30, 1961], No. 3002/62. Heading H5H. A flexible insulated heating element includes a wire wound helically on a core, and enclosed in a thermoplastic material formed with a plurality of outwardly extending ribs, which material include a limited proportion of conductive particles dispersed therein, whereby to increase the thermal conductivity of the material without seriously affecting the electrical resistivity. Wire 8, Fig. 2, is wound helically on a glass fibre core 9, and covered by an extruded layer 10 of P.V.C. formed with ribs 11 and containing 20 to 25% carbon black; silica, magnesium oxide, silver, or copper particles may alternatively be employed. A heating pad, Fig. 1, may include the composite structure 2, stitched to a cotton linette carrier 1, and enclosed within a waterproof envelope 4 of a rubberized fabric or a P.V.C. composition. The heating element may alternatively be attached to the carrier 1 by adhesive, or by laminating. Specification 969,253 is referred to.
