Abstract

968,982. Electrostatic precipitators. W. C. HOLMES & CO. Ltd. Oct. 27, 1960 [Nov. 20, 1959; April 23, 1960], Nos. 39411/59 and 14339/60. Heading B2J. An electrostatic precipitator has an ionizing screen comprising a grating 10 presenting a plurality of separate and distinct gas passages 12 each containing two filamentary non- radio-active ionizing electrodes 13, one entering from each end. The passages may be circular in section or hexagonal, to form a honeycomb structure, and the electrodes 13 needle shaped. The electrodes 13 may be adjustably supported on the rods 18, or the rods 18 may be adjustably mounted. The ionizing screen may be formed from sheet aluminium and is located in front of a plate-type collecting cell 14. According to the second Provisional Specification there may be provided more than two needle-shaped electrodes for each gas passage, the electrodes entering the passages radially.
