Abstract
986,410. Electrostatic separators. PAVAG ANSTALT. Jan. 17, 1962 [Jan. 19, 1961], No. 1646/62. Heading B2J. In a two-stage electrostatic separator comprising an ionizing zone 1 with discharge wires 4 supported between plate electrodes 3, and a collecting zone 2 with two spacedly interleaved sets of plate electrodes 8, 9, the plate electrodes 3 and 9 are all insulated and charged whereas the plate electrodes 8 and discharge wires 4 are all connected to an earthed frame, the ionizing plate electrodes 3 being extensions of the charged collecting electrodes 9. As shown, the wires 4 may be looped around spaced cross rods 5 either to lie in spaced pairs as in Fig. 2, or in staggered rows as in Fig. 3. In the latter case, the extensions of the plate electrodes 9 forming the electrodes 3 are sinuously shaped to provide increased spacing from the wires 4. In an alternative arrangement, only alternate electrodes 9 are extended to form electrodes 3.
