Abstract
968,551. Glow plugs. FABBRICA ITALIANA MAGNETI MARELLI S.p.A. June 22, 1961 [June 22, 1960], No. 22580/61. Heading F1B. In a glow plug for internal-combustion engines incorporating an electrical resistance heating element 2 enclosed in a sealed metal sheath 1 fixed in a longitudinal bore of the body 5 of the plug, for a distance extending at least over the connection between the heating element with the supply terminal and also a limited distance towards the nose the sheath is surrounded by and is in direct contact with the plug body or with a body which is in direct contact with the plug body and over at least the same distance the plug body is formed to make direct contact with a part of the engine. The sheath may be surrounded by and in direct metallic contact with a heat conducting sleeve. The sleeve may be forced at least partially between the sheath and the body of the plug. The heating element may comprise an alloy having a resistivity which increases considerably with temperature. Reference is made to a nickel chrome alloy. Contact of the body 5 with the sheath can be achieved at points or spots by caulking.
