Abstract
<PICT:0968345/C6-C7/1> Forced-convection heat-treatment of opened coils takes place in a furnace comprising a base structure supporting the coils, a closed circuit incorporating heating elements by which atmosphere gas is continuously circulated through the furnace, and a second closed circuit by which reactant gas, e.g. ammonia, is similarly continuously circulated. As shown, the coil C rests on a grid P1 above a plenum chamber P containing baffles B, B1. The first closed circuit comprises an inlet duct 3 with a damper 7, a fan 4, a heating chamber 5 containing, e.g., radiant tubes, and an outlet duct 6 with a damper 8. The second closed circuit comprises a duct 9 with dampers 11, 12, a fan 10 and a pipe 13 supplying reactant gas. A valve-controlled bleed-off pipe is provided in the furnace. The two circuits may be operated alternately, or reactant gas may be supplied either to the furnace or to the first circuit, and be circulated in the latter. Specification 968,346 is referred to.
