Abstract

967,953. Stoppers. C. E. HERITAGE. Jan. 5, 1961 [Jan. 5, 1960; Feb. 17, 1960], Nos. 344/60 and 5610/60. Heading B8T. A valve in the stopper of a container such as a collapsible tube comprises an oval resilient valve plug 4, with a slit 8, mounted in the oval outlet neck D, rotation of the plug through 90 degrees causing opening of the slit 8 to permit the contents of the tube to be expelled. The slit 8 may be straight or formed as a spiral which, on rotation of the plug, causes expulsion of a measured charge due to the fact that the spiral slit opens progressively. The plug 4, which is of rubber or plastic, is press-fitted or screwed on to the neck 2. In a modification, Fig. 8, the plug 10 is secured by a tongue 16 engaging a groove 17 which only permits rotation of 90 degrees. A sponge 9 may be mounted at the inner end of the slit to retract material from the slit when the latter is closed.
