Abstract

978,453. Container closure and pouring devices. SCHENLEY INDUSTRIES Inc. Oct. 5, 1962, No. 37798/62. Heading B8T. A combination container closure and pouring devices comprises a generally cylindrical hollow body 193, which can be attached to a container, having a transverse partition 198 from which a pouring spout 204 extends upwardly; the spout has a lateral dispensing aperture, and a tapered -tube 200 extends inwardly from a vent opening 199 in the partition 198. When closed the sleeve 215 of the cap 210 closely fits around the pouring spout, and a tapered plug 214 is received in the vent opening, the recess 218 releasably engages a lip 219, and the cap 210 is connected to the body 193 by a strap 213. An extended lip 206 and a groove 205<SP>1</SP> serve to prevent substantially all drippage when the container is returned to a vertical position after pouring, and the upper surface 209 of the partition 198 is inclined from the side wall of the upper portion 197 toward the vent opening 199 to enable surplus liquid to re-enter the container. Other embodiments have the vent opening at the centre of the partition, and a pouring spout with a lateral aperture extending into its dome-shaped end.
