Abstract

995,486. Stoppers. W. WALDHERR. June 22, 1961 [June 27, 1960; July 1, 1960; July 23, 1960], No. 22620/61. Heading B8T. A closure for containers consists of a container mouthpiece and cap to either of which is connected a hollow stopper which has at least one opening for filling the container and which can be pressed in to close the filling opening. In Fig. 1 the container mouthpiece 1 carries a pin 2, held by stays 3, which co-operates with the bore 10 of a mouthpiece 8 carried by a screw-cap 4. Filling is effected through a hollow stopper 12 carried by a filling head 13, the material flowing through an annular space 11, and on completion of filling the stopper 12 is pressed into the space 11 to close the filling opening. To extract the filling, cap 4 is screwed off until pin 2 clears the mouth of bore 10. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the stopper may be held by tear-off lugs before being pressed into the container neck. In Fig. 8 the container is filled through openings 75 in a stopper 73 when the stopper is projecting from the neck 71, the stopper being subsequently driven into the neck to close the openings 75. A dome 76 of the hollow stopper 73 rests fast in the bore 81 of the closure cap 79 and may be further gripped by the use of longitudinal ribs 81<SP>1</SP> in bore 81 so that dome 76 is removed with closure cap 79 to open the container. In a modification, Fig. 6, a pin 64 fixed inside the screw-cap 53 presses a thin plate 59 from the stopper mouth into the container and opens the stopper as the cap is screwed down. This plate could in another modification be held by a tear-off ring in the stopper dome. Specification 995,487 is referred to.
