Abstract

967,797. Buoys. ELTONSFORD Ltd. May 30, 1962 [June 16, 1961; Oct.12, 1961; Oct. 25, 1961], Nos. 21916/61, 36682/61 and 38229/61. Heading B7A. [Also in Division B8] An apparatus for loading and unloading flowable material to and from ships (see Division B8) includes a buoy having at least one buoyancy chamber and a clamping section secured thereto to clamp one or more hoses in juxtaposition so that the hoses are floated near the surface of the water. In the apparatus according to Fig. 11, main buoys 1 and subsidiary buoys 17, 24 are used to secure and float three hoses which emerge from a master permanent mooring buoy A located close inshore and stretch offshore to a ship's moored position, where they are tethered to a marker buoy B. As shown in Figs. 1-2, the main buoy 1 comprises a buoyancy chamber 3 to which is hinged by bolts 4 and secured by bolts 14 a clamping section 2, hollow to provide buoyancy, and supporting hoses 5, 6, 7. The buoy is provided with fenders 10. In the modification shown in Figs. 25 (end view) and Fig. 27 (plan), clamping section 2 supporting hoses 5, 6, 7 is secured to buoyancy chamber 3 having roller fenders 72. Figs. 4 and 5 show a subsidiary buoy 17 supporting a hose 5 by means of a clamping section 19 pivotally sewned to a buoyancy chamber 20. As shown in Figs. 6 and 7, the subsidiary buoy 24 supporting hose 7 comprises identical halves 25 and has a rubber tyre fender 28. Fig. 12 shows the master buoy 40 having a manifold 41 to which are connected flexible pipe-lines 42 that pass over a support structure 43 to pipes laid on the sea bed and leading to a shore installation. The buoys 1 have sinkers 65 (Fig. 23a) on ropes 60. An air/water pipe-line 64 from a suction/ pressure source on the master buoy leads via inlets/outlets on the buoyancy chamber of each buoy 1 to a valve 63 so that with the buoys floating as in Fig. 23a water may be drawn in to sink them as in Fig. 23c, and vice versa water in the buoys may be expelled by air to float them.
